You have read through a million times what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur: a, perseverance, drive, vision, and intelligence strong work ethic.
But while these’re most often repeated entrepreneurial traits, they are not the only ones. Through the research of mine I have come to discover that there are actually other more surprising characteristics that most all entrepreneurs share.
Over the course of the last year, I have profiled 10 of probably the greatest entrepreneurs of our time, visionaries like Richard Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and Branson. I have also edited Income Diary’s book of interviews with twenty of today’s most successful online entrepreneurs.

#1 Entrepreneurs are actually Down to Earth
What happens when someone wins the lottery? Generally, they gain a sports automobile, a yacht, and a number of diamond rings and totally lose the grip of theirs on reality. Sudden wealth has a way of putting folks out of touch with what truly matters.
Successful business owners are usually the benefactors of sudden wealth, however, they are a lot better at keeping the perspective of theirs. They have a tendency to stay down-to-earth even after the bank account of theirs goes sky high.
Take for instance 2 of the world’s youngest billionaires, Mark Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz of Facebook. Zuckerberg bought his first home last year for just seven dolars million dollars. Moskovitz still rides the bicycle of his to work.
Why are entrepreneurs so down to earth? Perhaps it is because most of them learned to live on practically nothing while they worked day and night to turn their first profit.
#2 Entrepreneurs are Naive
Many people think that naivety is just another word for ignorance. In fact, it means a lack of worldliness, judgment, and experience. Naivety is able to lead us astray? into believing fairy tales are actually true and that we will have the ability to fly whether we simply jump off the roof and flap our arms? but it is also a source of optimism and wonder.
This’s why naivety is very important for entrepreneurs. Wonder is needed to think of a brilliant new concept. Optimism is needed to think you will actually have the ability to get it into reality.
Every true genius is actually bound to be naive.
The entrepreneurs we interviewed for Web twenty all admitted to being a little bit nave when they first started. They founded their businesses with no expectations that are realistic? and most of those businesses failed as a result. One still has a box of custom t shirts collecting dust in the attic of his.
But in case they had not been so nave? had they known the complexities, the challenges, and the obstacles when they very first came up with their idea? then they never would’ve started down the entrepreneurial journey at all.
#3 Entrepreneurs are Lucky
When I researched the life of Bill Gates, I was a struck by just how lucky he was as a child. In 1968, Gates’ middle school invested $3,000 in a state of the art system. At that time, most universities did not even have a computer available to pupils. The possibility of getting to figure out how to program as 13-year-old in 1968 was about one-in-a-million.
I think that luck is actually preparation meeting opportunity.
The the fact is that everyone who is successful has gotten lucky at some point in the process. But while there is such a thing as dumb luck, most of the time folks make their own luck. By regularly putting themselves in the right situations, successful business owners make themselves luckier compared to the average individual.
#4 Entrepreneurs are actually Masters of Nothing
With a fully grown business, there are actually several employees and each one plays a different role. With a startup there are just as many roles to fill, but usually only one or perhaps 2 folks to fill them.
What this means is that most business owners have to have a diverse skillset just to bring the vision of theirs into reality. They cannot just be good managers; they should also be good marketers, salespeople, and copywriters. It can help if they are good programmers, graphic designers, and web developers too.
But when you are good at a lot of things, it is extremely hard to be great at any of them. In order to perfect a skill requires you spend hours into the practice of its daily. Because of this, most entrepreneurs are actually jacks of all trades, masters of none.
This is not always a bad idea. As your business grows, you can start to hire masters of their trade to fill specific roles. In the meantime, you will have a simpler time getting off the ground in case you a have a well rounded skillset.
